I thought -7 was a figure of speech....

"How are you handling the winter?"
-"Well, I never knew what it'd be like to live in a place with -19 windchill. I'm happy to be able to relay that story to people someday....and ya know...survive it."

Truth be told, once the temperature gets below 10 it all seems the same. The other morning I was scraping my windshield, along with my fellow Eskimo's. All of us had the same stoic look on our face, the same determination - scrape and go, scrape and go. The inside of my nose started to get this odd tingling sensation, a mixture of itching and pain. I realized my nose hairs were frozen. I wanted to do something about it, but I more so just wanted to get back into my car and I sure as hell wasn't taking my gloves off. Neat trick mother nature.

When the weather first started getting cold I bought sweaters, hey, at least I'll look cute. False. Once it's cold it doesn't matter. Once it's below 10 the motto is "layer until I can feel my extremities". I sleep in thermal leggings, a tank, a sweatshirt and socks. Getting in the shower takes real mental determination. I haven't figured out how to properly wash fully clothed, but I'm hoping by the end of winter I will have figured it out. Cute? Ha! The other day my coat popped open - not because I'd gained weight, but because my tank + long sleeve shirt + sweater + puffer vest + scarf made it just..SNAP.

All of this is temporary.  Someday I might live in a place that never gets snow.  A place where I can't sit and watch tv in a scarf (it's quite enjoyable). I encourage everyone to make yourself uncomfortable - whether through a move or through traveling. Push yourself.  Life is an adventure - treat it as such.

Travel tip: invest in good gloves. I mean REALLY. GOOD. GLOVES. It's all fun and games until you can't feel your fingertips. Trust me.
