Perception is reality...except when it isnt

omggggg his friends ex girlfriends brothers sister in law's second cousin liked his photo!!!!!

...ahh the power of social media. The place where fantasy meets some small finite part of reality.  The place where insecurities get magnified and time gets wasted. The place where perception is reality.  A friend of mine recently had a birthday and his photos with his girlfriend looked amazing - so in love. They broke up 3 days later. I have a friend who I get annoyed every time I tag him in a photo and he won't approve it to appear on his page. OMG what's it mean? He doesn't like me? He's ashamed of me? What can I do better? THERE'S GOT TO BE SOMETHING I CAN DO. His response, "really? You're gonna pick to fight over a photo on a fake website?" Whoa. Don't interrupt my psychopath moment with your logic.

I'm an active social media updater and the reality is some of those people who "like" my photos I can't even remember how I know them, some (on instagram) I don't know at all, and one of my "best friends" on snapchat is someone I haven't even seen in 10 years and we snap photos of food and animals. Oh the scandal....

I posted a photo of my upcoming Thailand trip and numerous people said "I thought you were saving money and now you're going to Thailand, you're supposed to visit me!". 1. You have no idea how I'm paying for that trip (all on the up and up I swear), 2. If I haven't visited you in the last 3 years I'm probably not going to this year (sorry) and 3. Just like the damn thing and move on since you clearly haven't talked to me  to have a clue what's going on.

There's a lot of good that can come from social media. I love imagery so I prefer instagram, Facebook is boring to me, but it's a concise way to keep up with everyone and vice versa. However, my "best friends" are the ones who I talk to often, the people who "like" me are the ones I communicate with verbally vs the click of a button.

What's all of this have to do with traveling? Nothing kills a trip faster than scrolling through the instagram feed and the next thing you know you're on someone's cousins brothers wife's profile lookin at pictures from Spain 2010.

Hard to "travelmefound" when you've bought a one way ticket on the crazy train express.....

...and if you've learned how to stalk someone via pinterest, perhaps look into private investigative work.....or therapy.
